The Secret Of The Universe
” There are simply some secrets we do not wish to take with us to the grave. This is one of them. Now- How does one reduce it to a single line and etch it for posterity on to one’s headstone? Further- How does one locate that headstone such that it might be read for the greater benefit of humanity? Let us gather together for a moment and consider these things” . My Master, I had in truth two but here we talk of the latter, Alexander P. Hixon, Jr., Ph.D. [ Columbia, Philosophy and World Religion, 1976 ] commonly known as ‘Lex’. My Master lived on this earth between the dates of 25 December 1941 and 1 November 1995. We stand at this moment, for all practical purposes, at a focal-point symbolizing this life. In a previous article, ‘The Rest of the Story’ I outlined two experiences which quite literally changed my life. I apologize for not researching the title, however, before I submitted it. It remains obscure. Herein I offer the lesson of that story, The Point, as it were. When I left Miami, among other things, I had a very interesting experience. Like all Mureeds, I had an initial practice. A simple mantra, twin two syllable words, intoned on the breath. Silent in nature. Which I did, no pun intended, religiously. On one such occasion, as was my habit, I was walking some four and a half miles, to my evening yoga class. It was a very lovely Florida evening and quite balmy. In all innocence my thoughts turned to the fact that my yoga instructor’s Sufi name was very similar to one of my mantras. Without even being aware of what I was about to do, my practice drifted slightly and I began to intone her name. Suddenly the entire universe became a realm of light. One singular being of light, including what had moments ago been me. I spent at the very least forty-five minutes lost in this state simply aware of what was unfolding within. The detail, although nearly impossible to express in words, was and is, quite vivid. When I emerged, returned to the realm of consensus reality, I was at the Yoga Class. Over four miles away having crossed two major highways, having negotiated over six or seven crosswalks in evening drive-time, several hundred vehicles later, with no conscious involvement … The first experience, at the Miami Tekke, was ‘The Throne of God’. The second, just shared, was ‘The Face of God’. Recently it came to me that more accurately, or appropriately that second experience should be called ‘The Eye of God’ or has it has often been referred to as ‘The All Seeing Eye’. Both experiences are/were ‘indelible in nature’. That is to say, still with me, so to speak. I have pointed out before that every such experience can be said to be eternal, always with us, engrained as it were ‘within us’, a part of the very fabric of our being. Rather this body with which we identify so strongly is a projection, an expression of that region of the realm of light from which we emanate … What we have come to think of as physical reality is just such an emanation … ‘God Alone Exists.’ ’ Adonai Ehad.’
