I think it only fair to point out, I was born and raised under what turned out to be rather unusual conditions. I was born and raised, as had five generations before me, on the high edge of the Highlands, in Louisville Kentucky. What this meant was that less than a hundred yards away, from both my house and the house of my grandmother a couple of blocks to the North, was an original growth woodland that stretched on and on, both across the city, but back in history at least as far as Daniel Boone ( Who had settled when Louisville was known only as Boones camp and perhaps ‘Corn Island’ to the rivermen and to the fur traders prior to the Indian Wars. ) Mind you, by the time I was ten, the city itself was roughly 625,000 souls.” 38 ” At some point,before I was fourteen- I had gotten quite curious about what lay to the West of Hannibal MO. I simply crossed the highway,probably US 61, and pointed myself West.
